The PM PrepCast™ will help you earn PDUs for your re-certification every three years. This article explains how and when you can use the PM PrepCast to obtain PDUs.
How it Works
The PM PrepCast™ qualifies for both Contact Hours and PDUs. If you watch our lessons before your exam, then you earn Contact Hours. If you watch them after you pass your exam, then you earn PDUs.
Who Can Use The PM PrepCast To Earn PDUs?
Anyone holding a PMI certification can earn PDUs with The PM PrepCast™ for their certification renewal.
There is one additional requirement for those holding the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification: If you passed your PMP exam before March 26, 2018, then you can watch The PM PrepCast™ and earn PDUs for “upgrading” your knowledge to A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) Sixth Edition.
As part of the renewal process, you need to obtain the required amount of Professional Development Units (PDUs) to meet the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) for your certification. The idea is to spend time to learn, advance your PM knowledge, teach others, or volunteer to keep yourself up to date as it relates to your certification and actively participate as a professional in the community. Here are the most common scenarios as they relate to The PM PrepCast and earning PDUs:
Scenario 1: You passed your PMP exam before March 26, 2018
Yes, you can definitely claim PDUs for The PM PrepCast because, in this scenario, you passed your exam using the PMBOK Guide® Fifth Edition. This means you can watch The PM PrepCast Sixth Edition, which is based on the PMBOK Guide® Sixth edition, to 'update' yourself to the most current PMBOK Guide® and earn PDUs for it.
Scenario 2: You watched The PM PrepCast Sixth Edition to prepare for your PMP® Exam
In this case, you cannot use The PM PrepCast Sixth Edition for PDUs. This is because you cannot claim 35 Contact Hours from the PrepCast on your PMP application and then also claim PDUs for renewal.
Scenario 3: You did not use The PM PrepCast Sixth Edition to prepare for your PMP. Instead, you used someone else's training.
You should not use The PM PrepCast for PDUs, but we are not going to stop you. Here is why we make this recommendation: If you passed your PMP exam after March 26, 2018, then you studied for your exam using the PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition. Watching The PM PrepCast Sixth Edition means that you are watching 60 hours of PM discussions that are based on the very same PMBOK Guide® that you have already spent hours and hours reviewing. This means that you will not learn anything new, you are not moving forward, and - frankly - you will probably be bored. Instead, we recommend the Free PM Podcast at www.pm-podcast.com/free.
